A new SMS and email service will allow Star Alliance customers to keep track of the flights of any of the group’s 17 member airlines.

The alliance is a group of leading airlines which allows customers to benefit from shared frequent flyer miles, airport lounges and more.

Now the group is working with mobile transaction network mBlox to deliver a flight status alert service that is available at www.staralerts.oag.com.

Via SMS text messages or emails, the service delivers one message four hours before scheduled take-off, which confirms the flight’s status. Further messages alert passengers of any flight delays of 15 minutes or more.

Passengers also receive alerts to the status of all connecting flights along the passenger’s journey, as well as details of any terminal changes.

“Our passengers are increasingly looking for ways to make the most of their time while travelling and this service allows them to do this,” said the Star Alliance’s Philip Saunders.
