Airline network Star Alliance has launched an online version of its Round the World Mileage Calculator designed to make the process of planning round the world flights easier.

The Star Alliance comprises various airlines including bmi, US Airways, Singapore Airlines and South African Airways and provides passengers with benefits such as access to airport lounges and frequent flyer miles.

Now anyone who is online can make use of the mileage calculator to build itineraries for round the world trips and find out how much they will cost.

“Once the full trip has been planned, it can be transmitted to a reservations office of one of the member carriers, be printed and faxed to a travel agent for booking and ticketing or simply be saved on the computer for future use,” the alliance said in a statement.

Star Alliance round the world routes can include up to 15 stopovers and cover a maximum of 39,000 miles. There is also a special fare available for economy class seats only, with a maximum mileage of 26,000 and a limit of five stopovers.

In September, Star Alliance was voted Best Airline Alliance at the Business Traveller Awards.
