Ever since the ancient Greeks built their first amphitheatres, we’ve known an incredible setting will always enhance the drama of a performance.
These days we’re more used to seeing shows inside, under a roof. Concert halls, theatres and gig venues allow promoters to control specific conditions – set the lighting, manage the acoustics and escape the weather.
But there are still a few amphitheatres around, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre just outside Denver is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful.
The people who run it say it’s the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. Whether that’s true or not, it has to be one of the most atmospheric settings to see a band perform or catch a film.
If you fancy seeing a concert or film this summer, there are still tickets left for a number of shows. Below, is our pick of the schedule.
