The credit crunch may be taking a toll on personal finances, but according to one new survey few consumers are willing to postpone plans to take a well-deserved break.

With the UK on the brink of a recession and no end in sight to the painful banking crisis, research firm TripVision conducted a survey to discover whether people were changing their travel plans.

It discovered that between January and September the number of people professing a desire to go abroad in the near future fell by a mere one per cent to 75 per cent.

However, while most people seem determined to protect their annual holiday, more and more Brits are making compromises when it comes to selecting their holiday destination.

Almost six out of ten respondents (58 per cent) admitted that the economic downswing would have an impact on that choice.

TripVision marketing and operations director Jeff Rhys-Jones commented: “I don’t think the travel industry as a whole is going to be a loser. While there will be more company failures, the really savvy ones will be putting forward products to consumers.” Earlier this week, the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) said affordability is just one of many factors holidaymakers bear in mind when they purchase a holiday.
