With Britain’s super summer of sport now in full swing, planning a winter getaway is probably the last thing you want to be thinking about.

OK, so you wouldn’t think it was summer judging by the dubious weather we’ve been experiencing but that summer atmosphere is most certainly sweeping the nation.

But it’s never too early to start planning a winter break. A winter holiday can be a rather pricey affair, so the sooner you get organised the more money you’ll save.

For many people, a winter holiday is all about seeking out some far-away sun and top up that out-of-season tan to the envy of everyone in the office.

For others, however, it’s all about snow, slopes, and skiing. Whether you’re having a budget ski break in Bulgaria or splashing out on a trip across the Pond, a ski holiday is always an unforgettable experience.

Yet seeking out snow doesn’t have to mean mountains and chairlifts. Antarctica offers natural beauty on a scale not seen elsewhere and it isn’t as hard to get to as you might think.

Tour operator Aurora Expeditions offer discounted trips to the continent at the bottom of the world, giving holidaymakers an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Three discounted trips are available with Aurora Expeditions this winter, all offering 20 per cent off the usual price.

Firstly, there is the chance to sail to the Antarctic Peninsula on an 11-day trip. Departing from Ushuaia, Argentina, on November 26, passengers will have the chance to camp, kayak, and try their hand at climbing.

Also on offer is a trip to the Antarctic Peninsula departing on December 6 for nine days. Also sailing from Ushuaia but combining the trip with a flight, the trip ends at Punta Arenas, Chile, where passengers will be able to camp and improve their photography skills.

Finally, for those who want a trip a little closer to Christmas, Aurora Expeditions is running a fly/sail trip from December 14 to 22.

Sailing from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia, via the Antarctic Peninsula, the trip includes both kayaking and photography. Discounted rates for all three trips start from $5,095, around £3,200.
