With so many events already out there, music festival organisers must really be struggling for original ideas. But it seems the people behind Coachella (listen to the playlist we put together in April) are willing to sail into uncharted waters.
They’ve just launched tickets for a festival on a cruise ship. Festival at Sea will sail on the Celebrity Silhouette, a Solstice class cruise ship that will offer, what we think must be the most un-festival like conditions of all festivals.
Not only will music fans swap standing in a field for being on a boat, they’ll be trading a tent for luxurious quarters and overpriced fast food stalls for sit down restaurant dining.
The S.S. Coachella will set sail on two trips this December; Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas, December 16-19, and Fort Lauderdale to Jamaica, December 19-23.
Pulp are headlining both sailings. They’re joined on the bill by a mix of bands and DJs including Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco, Yeasayer, Girl Talk and Warpaint.
We thought festival prices had already gotten out of control, that was until now. Admittedly the Festival at Sea equates to a mini-cruise, but the cheapest ticket is still an eye-watering £320 ($500) per person for the four-day festival slash jaunt across the seas.
