London Heathrow Airport is set to be one of the first locations in the UK to benefit from a new recyclable hotel building design.

Hotel provider Travelodge is building two developments in the UK, using modified shipping container-like modules, offering budget accommodation for travellers.

The first building is set to open at Uxbridge, near London, with a larger structure at Heathrow also under construction and set to open before the end of 2008.

Paul Harvey, Travelodge’s director of property and development, said: “Travelodge is all about making hotels available to more people than ever before and this construction method has the potential to change the face of hotels as we know it.”

Travelodge’s announcement is the second cutting-edge hotel development to be announced for Heathrow in recent months.

Capsule hotel chain Yotel recently opened an offering at the airport, for both long and short-term users, to add to its London Gatwick operation.
