There’s no better place to learn about Vikings than in their homeland of Denmark. As you might have guessed, there are a number of archaeological Viking sites throughout the country.

One of the best is the historic town of Ribe, in South Denmark. The town is home to the Ribe Viking Centre, which takes part in the Lamb Festival each year – an event spanning the whole of South Denmark.

Starting on 11 June, visitors are invited to take part in archery, Viking games and bread making, as well as learning how Vikings used lambs and sheep in their everyday lives.

Largs Viking Festival, Scotland

The Battle of Largs, in 1263, was the final Viking invasion of the UK and led to the Treaty of Perth 1266. The battle is still commemorated today with a Viking festival.

Held in September, the Largs Viking Festival features parades, storytelling and plenty of Viking activities and workshops.

Jorvik Viking Festival, York

Possibly the most well-known Viking attraction in the UK, the Jorvik Viking Centre in York attracts thousands of visitors each year.

The Jorvik Viking Festival, held in February each year, sees hundreds of Vikings descend on the historic city to demonstrate battle-drills and training routines.
