Jersey Airport is to hike airport car parking rates from 1 September.

Rates will increase by 10p per hour for short-term and long-stay car parks; from 60p to 70p. Those going on holiday for a week, which works out at 168 hours, will have to pay £235.20 compared to the £201.10 at current rates.

Jersey Airport’s Terminal and Security Manager, Steve Read said: “Jersey Airport has maintained its current car parking charges since May 2009.

“These revised rates reflect the recent 5 per cent rise in GST, together with the need for the airport to maintain a fair balance between aviation and non-aviation income.”

Luckily for cash-strapped travellers the area alongside the access road leading to the departures terminal will remain a free pick-up zone. Drivers will be able to park there for ten minutes at no cost.

Jersey is not the first airport to announce increased parking charges this year. Leeds-Bradford International Airport increased its short-stay car-parking fees last month and introduced a £2 charge for the drop-off and pick-up parking point to bring it in line with Manchester, Newcastle and Bristol airports.
