The Diamond Jubilee weekend is fast approaching. However you feel about the Queen and the Royal Family, everyone appreciates the extra days off.

The four-day weekend is an opportunity to really make the most of the summer weather that has finally graced us with its presence – providing it lasts until the weekend!

Many of us will be using the Jubilee to stage a celebration of our own, whether it’s a joyous street party or a casual BBQ with friends.

Many Britons are heading overseas for the long break and airports, train stations and ferry ports are expected to be busy.

If you are still pondering what to do over the Jubilee weekend, there’s still time to book a last-minute trip. So, what are the weekend breaks that you may not have considered?

Brussels, Belgium

We often overlook Belgium as a holiday destination, but it has royal grandeur on a scale to match any country in Europe.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. With beautiful architecture throughout the city, not to mention the Royal Palace, Brussels has more to offer than you might initially think.

Black Forest, Germany

The Queen has a strong German heritage, so where better to visit over the Jubilee weekend than the beautiful Black Forest region?

Situated in South West Germany, this sprawling woodland is the epitome of peace and quiet. With amazing views, picturesque villages and towns, and plenty of walking and cycling trails, a weekend in the Black Forest will fly by.

Cork, Ireland

If you’re thinking about staying slightly closer to home over the Jubilee weekend, Ireland may be the perfect destination for you.

While many tourists will instinctively head to Dublin, the city of Cork has plenty to offer for a long weekend. With a compact city centre, friendly locals and great night life, Cork is perfect for an alternative Irish break.
