Fans of the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip will welcome the news that the new Terminal 3 building at McCarran International Airport has opened.

The airport is the seventh-busiest in the US and the 1.9 million-square-foot expansion is set to provide even more facilities for the 40 million passengers who fly through it on an annual basis.

The new terminal boasts two Transportation Security Administration checkpoints with up to 31 lanes, 14 gates (seven of which can be used for international arrivals), a large ticketing lobby and an eight-story garage that can accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles.

This is in addition to the automated tram system allowing check-in, security and baggage claim to be handled by Terminal 3 for up to 26 gates.

“After years of planning and construction, it was amazing to see the first passengers and aircraft arrive here on Terminal 3’s first day of operations,” said Randall Walker, director of aviation in Clark County.

“McCarran provides the first and last impressions of Las Vegas to tens of millions of travellers each year, and with T3 we’re now well poised to serve those passengers’ needs for years to come.”

Las Vegas is often high on the list of holidaymakers’ must-visit destinations, but where should you visit?

Caesar’s Palace

Blowing the budget is a pre-requisite for a stay in Las Vegas and where better to do it than the opulence of Caesar’s Palace.

The famed Las Vegas hotel and casino also has an impressive programme of events, hosting big names such as Celine Dion as well as numerous poker tournaments.

Bellagio Fountains

For a visual delight that will be a welcome reprieve from the frantic pace of life in Las Vegas, head to the Bellagio Fountains.

Marvel at the 1,214 jets as they shoot water up to 460 feet in the air, synchronised to tunes from classic crooners including Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Shows take place every half hour from 3pm to 8pm, and every 15 minutes from 8pm until midnight.
