Stansted Airport will be hosting an Action Day today, Thursday 7 July, which will focus on the rights of passengers.

Organised by the UK European Consumer Centre (ECC) and the European Consumer Centre for Services, the one-day event will include expert advice for travellers on issues such as delays, baggage loss and cancellations.

Passengers will be able to approach some of the experts who will be on hand around the hub between 7am and 2pm today. The event will also be taking place at airports across Europe as part of the ECC-Net – a network of 29 European Consumer Centres (27 EU countries, Iceland and Norway).

UK European consumer centre manager, Jed Mayatt, said, “Travelling by plane has taken off significantly since the early 1990s and this rapid growth has led to some inconveniences which have affected passengers.

“EC Regulation 261/2004 came into effect in 2005, establishing common rules on compensation and help to air passengers in certain situations. This legislation applies to passengers leaving from airports within an EU country and all those arriving into such airports from a third country where the flight is operated by an EU carrier.

“We hope that by taking part in this EU-wide initiative that we will reach hundreds of air passengers,” he added.
