There’s a new Superman film coming out this summer, hurray! Let’s have a look at all the places Clark Kent has saved in his previous films to remind ourselves of why Superman is such a great example of somebody who loves to travel.
Paris, France
In Superman II, cigarette-smoking terrorists plant a hydrogen bomb in the Eiffel Tower. Sacré bleu! Lois Lane somehow gets herself caught under the lift too, the silly billy.
Superman comes flying though, sorts the whole mess by throwing the bomb into outer space, then comes back down to buy himself a few baguettes.
The San Andreas fault, California / Hackensack, New Jersey, USA
In the finale of the original film, while Superman is caught in a kryptonite trap, the dastardly Lex Luthor fires a nuclear missile at the unassuming town of Hackensack on the east coast, and a second missile towards the San Andreas fault in the west.
Superman has to save Hackensack first because he is set free from the trap by Luthor’s girlfriend, and the New Jersey town is where her mother lives!
Lois Lane, in typical fashion, somehow finds herself on the west coast and gets killed by a landslide caused by the second missile. Good job our Clark realises he can save her by flying backwards really fast to reverse time. We’ll have to assume this made a lot more sense back in the 1970s.
Colombia
In Superman III, unscrupulous businessman Ross Webster tries to have the whole of Colombia destroyed because they won’t let him monopolise their coffee industry.
He has a weather satellite hacked to create a giant tornado but Superman quickly puts the kibosh on it. Superman’s alien digestive system is immune to the effects of caffeine, so he’s never particularly enjoyed the lifetime supply of café lattes Colombia bestowed upon him as a reward.
