When we did our 7 stops in Hong Kong post, we discovered the brilliant work of Robert S. Donovan, who’s letting us publish these 7 shots of Shanghai in all its sprawling, ancient-meets-modern, fast-changing glory.

The featured image is Jing’an Temple, the Temple of Peace and Tranquillity, that was first built in 247 (yes, 247) and is located over Jing’an Temple Station, in the heart of Jing’an District.
