It seems summer holidays really are all about sun, sand and er, surfing. Being able to access the web whilst travelling has become an absolute essential, according to new research.

Network solutions company Brocade’s survey has revealed that 95 per cent of European travellers pack at least one web-enabled device in their suitcase for every single trip they take.

Half of all respondents to the survey reported that they expect to access the internet at least once a day during their trip, whilst 40 per cent of people said that they ‘actively looked’ for destinations with reliable web connectivity.

Twenty-five per cent of travellers admitted logging on on the beach, with four per cent surfing the worldwide web whilst in the jungle.

Vice president and chief marketing officer at Brocade, John McHugh, said, “The findings just go to show that in 2011, we are hugely connected, no matter what we are doing, and we fully expect to be able to get online from anywhere in the world.”
