One of the culinary capitals of the world, New York City, now has two more prestigious 3-Star Michelin restaurants to add to an already impressive roster of exceptional restaurants.

The award of 3-stars by Michelin is seen as the highest recognition a restaurant can achieve in the culinary world. The Michelin Guide New York City 2012 features seven 3 star restaurants, two more than previously.

The two new restaurants given 3-stars are Eleven Madison Park, which serves a tasting lunch menu for $125, and Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, which, rare among great restaurants, is a BYOB (Bring-your-own-booze) establishment in Brooklyn.

Seven of the total 93 restaurants in the world that currently hold three stars are located in New York City. In addition, nine New York restaurants have achieved two Michelin stars, including new additions L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon and SHO Shaun Hergatt. Gordon Ramsay at The London also earned two Michelin stars. Forty-six restaurants in New York earned one Michelin star.

Last week Michelin announced that 114 New York City restaurants will feature in the 2012 Michelin Guide to New York City 2012 under the “Bib Gourmand” category.

The Bib Gourmand category of the Michelin Guide features those restaurants that serve two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 before tax and tips. View the full list NYC Bib Gourmand restaurants.

New York is one of only three cities where Michelin publishes an annual guide. The other two cities are San Francisco and Chicago.
