First Choice Airways, one of the UK’s most prominent leisure airlines, has ordered two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners to offer extra comfort to its passengers.

The company initially ordered six 787s back in 2004 and Boeing will deliver its first 787 in 2009. It is thought that the additional two Dreamliners will be delivered by 2011, as First Choice steps up its commitment to leisure travel.

“The additional 787s are integral to providing our customers the most comfortable air travel experience possible in an environmentally responsible way,” said Chris Browne, managing director of First Choice Airways.

Browne cited the spacious interior, bigger windows and higher humidity as examples of the benefits of the 787s and he also praised the 20 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency.

According to a statement from Boeing, the 787-8 Dreamliner will take to the skies in 2008 and passengers can expect “an overall improvement in passenger comfort”. The planes have also been designed to facilitate quieter takeoffs and landings, making the on-board experience all the more relaxing.

Founded in 1987 as air2000, First Choice Airways currently has a fleet of 32 aircraft which it operates from 15 UK airports. The company now flies approximately six million customers to 60 worldwide destinations each year.
