The Brit Awards went off in spectacular fashion last night, with posh frocks, some stunning performances, and a little bit of controversy.

Home-grown singer Adele was crowned Queen of the awards, taking home Best Female Artist and Album of the Year for 21.

But fans were in uproar when the Someone Like You singer was cut off by host James Corden during her Best Album acceptance speech.

The singer was clearly not happy with the interruption and proceeded to give a rather rude hand gesture to show’s organisers, before Blur took to the stage for a back catalogue medley.

Adele and fellow British solo artist Ed Sheeran were two of the big winners on the night, but the awards experienced somewhat of a US invasion.

It was something of a US invasion, with Rihanna, Lana Del Rey and rockers Foo Fighters taking home awards. So where have these music conquerors come from?

Barbados

Umbrella singer Rihanna hails from this gorgeous Caribbean island, but is now based in the US. Rihanna took home the International Female Artist award last night, and treated us to a stunning performance of hit single We Found Love.

New York

American singer Lana Del Rey was born in New York City, and grew up in nearby Lake Placid. The Video Games singer was emotional as she accepted her International Breakthrough Act award, thanking fans in the UK for their support.

Seattle

Seattle is the hometown of rock legend Dave Grohl, who founded Foo Fighters in 1994 after the death of Kurt Cobain. The band had a great year in 2011, and rounded it off with a Brit Award for Best International Group.
