If weather is an important factor for your trip to Budapest, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, July is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 20.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 0.0 C).
If you are hoping to visit in August for the Sziget Festival you will need to book your flights to Budapest well in advance to secure the cheapest flight tickets. The Ballet Festival also takes place then too, making the cost of your flight tickets more expensive without some early planning. You can book your flights to Budapest with less notice if you are planning to visit outside of the peak summer times, with October and November providing cheap flight tickets.
Try to get a window seat on the right hand side of the plane and you’ll be greeted with stunning views of Budapest as you approach the city. Not all airlines offer the spectacular views so it can be a bit of a gamble but ensuring you’re on the right means you have the best chance.

Departure was late. Plane much too small for an 11 hour flight. One bathroom was out of order in a completely full flight.

Head to Budapest at the start of August and enjoy one of the best up and coming festivals on offer in Europe. The Sziget Festival is growing each year and is a fantastic event.
One thing to visit whilst you are in Budapest is Memento Park. It’s home to a host of comical statues and can be enjoyed by all the family. No surprises then that it made the top 3 unusual parks list!
Szechenyi Baths is a must-go place when you’re in Budapest. The capital is spoilt for choice when it comes to thermal baths; Szechenyi Baths is the largest medicinal pool in Europe and is surrounded by a palace.
Whilst Hungary might not enter your mind for wine, it hosts an incredible wine festival every year and shouldn’t be missed if you’re in Budapest whilst it’s on.
Located 16km (10 miles) east of Budapest, Budapest Franz Liszt International Airport (BUD) is the largest of Hungary’s five international airports. Renamed in 2011 for the famous Hungarian composer and pianist on the 200th anniversary of his birth, the airport is still popularly known as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport.
The airport is an important hub in Eastern Europe, and flights to Budapest International Airport come from destinations all over the world, including New York, Paris, London, Prague, Berlin, Cairo, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Beijing, St Petersburg and Doha. This gateway to Budapest is known for its efficiency, if not its friendliness. If you want fast processing times and short queues, you’ll love the airport – just don’t expect the staff to smile much.
The brand-new SkyCourt provides much-needed entertainment for waiting passengers, and further expansion is on the cards for Budapest Ferihegy, including a business park and hotel with conference facilities, and additional car parks and cargo facilities.
