Book cheap flights to Turkey and visit Side, a charming resort town nestled between two stretches of golden, sunny beach. 

Pronounced "see-day", the word means "pomegranate" in Anatolian, a fruit symbolising abundance. Today's visitors would be hard-pressed to disagree. There is accommodation to suit all budgets and enough restaurants and late-night bars to suit all holiday makers. 

The main sites include a grand 2nd-century theatre that offers beautiful views of the sea and the ruins of the Roman bath houses.

• Buy carpets, leather or fast food from the shops which are scattered among marble slabs and columns from the past. It's almost as though you are in a living museum.
• Lie on the beach or go up river in a fishing boat from the harbour. Part of the trip often involves water fights between boats so be prepared in case you get wet.
• Stand in the middle of the great amphitheatre that seated 20,000 Romans in its day and make a speech or recite some poetry. Test out the acoustics by getting your friends to sit at the back and see if they can hear you.
