The capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Amman has plenty to see and do, offering the traveller a vibrant and unforgettable experience. From the hidden city of Petra to amazing palaces like the magnificent desert edifice of Qasr al-Kharrana, the rich history of this region of the world will greet you at every turn. To learn more about Amman's past, why not pay a visit to the National Archaeological Museum? Car buffs are also sure to love the city's Automobile Museum:  a fantastic and family friendly place that welcomes visitors of all ages. Make sure to explore the flea markets and produce stalls on Rainbow Street and to visit the stunning Abu Darwish Mosque (which is especially beautiful at sunset).

When to fly to Amman

For many visitors to Jordan, it is the temperature that determines when is the best time to go. Between March and May, the temperatures are warm but pleasantly so. If you want to experience some really sizzling heat, though, the summer months of June to August will give you plenty of that! Just make sure to pack some sun cream if you go during the hottest months, to cover up with light clothing, and to stay indoors when the sun burns most fiercely. Visit in April to avoid the rainier season in March, but watch out for the sandy desert wind that replaces the rain! If you are willing to pay that little bit extra, then why not travel during Eid to experience the bright colours and joyful festivals associated with this period? The city usually takes part in a week-long celebration at the end of July to mark Eid and the end of the fasting period of Ramadan. Islamic New Year in the last week of October is another good time to come to the city, as it really comes alive with food, drink, music, and other festivities. A great way to travel cheaply is to visit Amman outside of the school holidays if you can. The colder months of December and January can also be quieter times, and make for a wonderful Christmas holiday with the family.
