Les Deux Alpes, situated in the Isere region of the French Alps, is arguably one of the oldest ski resorts in Europe. First used for skiing in 1925, when a “lift” was constructed from a simple tow-rope, today the resort is bounded by the two towns of Venosc and Mont de Lan. In between runs a lively and energetic strip, bustling with bars and clubs, which makes up the resort itself. Skiers who book flights to Les Deux Alpes are predominantly young Brits looking to enjoy the après-ski and party late into the night.
The skiing itself is also good, with snow conditions almost guaranteed thanks to the largest glacier in Europe. Advanced skiers should head away from the resort towards La Fee, where there are some good black runs. Beginners and intermediates are well-catered for in the slopes around Les Deux Alpes, with 47 blue runs and 21 greens. The snowboard park, Nitro, is always popular.
