It was weird that we had to check after security and go to a corral which had no bathroom or other services about an hour before boarding. Had to check out of the corral to leave and check back in.

Goiania is the capital of the Brazilian state, Goiás. This planned city in central Brazil was founded in 1933 and is popularly known as the ‘spring capital’. There are many parks in Goiania and important parks on the visitor’s list include Parque Zoológico, Parque Vaca Brava, Parque Areião, Bosque dos Buritis and Parque Ecológico. The Parque Zoológico is home to many species of animals besides five streams, the Lago das Rosas (Lake of Roses) and the Horto Florestal. The Bosque dos Buritis is the main public park located to the west of the Goiania city centre. It has a small art museum and the Monument for World Peace that has been conceived by Siron Franco. The Praça Universitária (universities square) is like a huge outdoor museum with a number of sculptures adorning the square. Museu Goiano Zoroastro Artiaga (Zoroastro Artiaga’s Museum) has a huge collection of works of art of Goiania and Goiás. While visiting the Paranaiba Avenue, check on the Centro de Convenções (Convention Centre of Goiânia) which is the venue for cultural fairs and conventions. Goiania has a vibrant night life with many bars, night clubs and pubs patronized by the young and the various social classes. The urban centre has a number of commercial streets and shopping centres. If you happen to be in the city on a Sunday visit the open-air market- Feira Hippie (Hippie Fair) at Trabalhador’s square in the Central Sector. However, the major central market is the Mercado Central on Rua 3 where you can shop for handicrafts, clothes and ethnic products among other items.
Goiania has a widespread system of buses covering all the important routes and destinations. There is a well-established bus station at Praca do Trabalhador (Worker’s Square). Taxis are also available aplenty though they may be relatively expensive and may take more time during the peak traffic hours between 5pm to 7pm. Buses travel on designated bus lanes and can take you faster to your destination.
Santa Genoveva Airport lies to the northeast of Goiania. It is about 5 miles (8 km) from the central Goiania. There are many taxi points and rental vehicles from the airport to the Goiania city centre.
