Global airline alliance SkyTeam has revealed details of its plans for Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4.
With the imminent launch of the EU-US open-skies agreement, SkyTeam members including Continental Airlines, Delta Airways and Northwest Airlines will begin to operate services from the terminal.
As a consequence of this, the alliance, which is made up of 11 airlines in total, is set to develop a number of facilities for use by passengers flying on Heathrow services operated by any of its members.
With a target completion date of 2009 envisaged, the new facilities will include a common check-in area, common-use self-service kiosks, additional check-in desks and an increase in bag drop-off locations.
Giorgio Callegari, chairman of SkyTeam Airport and Infrastructure Special Projects, said: “Co-locating our member operations at London Heathrow will allow SkyTeam to offer our customers worldwide a superior travel experience in one of the most contested markets in the world.”

In all, ten of SkyTeam’s partners are set to benefit from the new co-location facility, with the airlines gradually moving their services to Terminal 4 over the course of the next 12 months.
