Passengers departing from London Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 1 today (January 12) could face delays as climate change activists prepare for a protest.

The environmental group Climate Rush has revealed that it plans to launch a blockade at the world’s third busiest airport to highlight its opposition to the construction of a third runway.

The protests will begin from 7pm and are planned to continue until the government announces its decision on the expansion.

An activist, who declined to be named, told The Daily Mail: “If BAA has heavy security checks at the entrances, that will delay thousands of passengers anyway and the disruption will attract the media attention we seek.”

Airlines including British Airways, bmi, Air New Zealand and US Airways face the prospect of days of major delays as the government is expected to make its announcement by the middle of this week.
