The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has reaffirmed the “strong consensus” among its members that a third runway at Heathrow Airport should be built.
The industry group’s comments come just days after a letter signed by 13 of Britain’s top businesspeople called on the government to rethink its expansion plans.
Insisting he did not want to “get into a punch-up” with opponents to the third runway, CBI Director General Richard Lambert said it will be crucial to the UK’s economic recovery.
“For a majority of our members the argument is that the UK needs a hub airport rather than being at the end of a branch line from France and the Netherlands,” he told The Financial Times.
