The Bahrain Grand Prix is just around the corner, and F1 fans across the globe are gearing up for a return to the desert after a two-year hiatus.

Controversy has surrounded this year’s race, but F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has decided to go ahead with the Grand Prix.

Held at Bahrain International Circuit, the race is one of the toughest in the F1 calendar as high winds and swirling sand often cause problems for the teams.

But one thing is for sure – it’s set to be a corker. After a two-year absence, Bahrain is sure to pull out all the stops to make it one to remember.

Fans and enthusiasts from across the world will be descending on the Middle Eastern country this weekend. But Bahrain has more to offer than just a world-class racing circuit, so what else is there to see in the country?

Arad Fort

This 15th Century fort, located close to Bahrain Airport, is a traditional piece of Islamic architecture and a “must-see” in Bahrain.

It is one of a number of forts in Bahrain, and was used to prevent invading ships breaking through to the island where the fort is located.

Manama

A trip to Bahrain would not be complete without a visit to Manama, the capital city. Manama is something of a financial hub in the Middle East, and is a typically swish city.

With large skyscrapers, luxurious harbours and gorgeous weather all year round, Manama is one of the leading cities in the Middle East.

The Tree of Life

Located off the highway between Riffa and Awali, the Tree of Life is a mysterious wonder of nature and something every visitor to Bahrain has to see.

Standing tall on its own in the middle of the desert, this acacia tree has survived without any obvious source of water for more than 400 years – 300 years longer than the life expectancy of its species.
