A new direct route between London Heathrow and Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, has taken off.

Air Canada is now operating a three-times weekly connection on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, to increase to a daily service from April 1 next year.

Flights depart Heathrow at 12.35pm, touching down in Edmonton at 2.45pm. On the return leg, flights take off from the Canadian city at 6.35pm (8.25pm on Tuesdays), arriving back in London at 10.10am the following day (12 noon for the Tuesday/Wednesday flight).

The Air Canada schedule has been arranged to allow passengers to get easy connections to Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie and Yellowknife. Flights will be operated on Boeing 767 aircraft with the choice of either economy or executive first classes.

The new service reinforces Air Canada’s position as the foremost carrier operating between Canada and the UK, offering more services than any other airline.

Growing demand for transatlantic flights has spawned other new routes, including a low-cost service between Toronto and three UK airports (London Stansted, Manchester and Glasgow) from Flyglobespan, to start next May.
