If you’re taking flights to China this summer, here’s a new way of getting around the vast country. Climb aboard the brand new high-speed rail link between the buzzing Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai, which opens at the end of June.

Promising super speed, the trains will link the political and financial capitals of China at 180mph, cutting the journey time significantly, taking just four hours and 45 minutes, half the time of the current train journeys.

A whopping 90 services a day will run between the two cities, each capable of carrying more than 1,000 passengers every time.

Vice-minister of railways, Hu Yadong, told China Daily that the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway was a “landmark project”. “Its technology is advanced, its quality reliable and safety guaranteed. It is completely ready for operation and will open in late June,” he said.

Tickets for the speedy trains will range from 410 Chinese yuan (£39) to 1,750 (£167) Chinese yuan depending on the class of travel you choose and on the specific train’s speed.

Chief engineer of the new line, He Huawu, said that the creation of the new high-speed link was a step forward in the drive to bring green transport to China.
