Air passengers are opposed to the use of mobile phones on planes, a holiday home website has claimed.

DirectHolidayBookings.co.uk has received a large amount of negative feedback from its customers regarding the potential roll-out of mobile phone use across all airlines.

The company is campaigning against the use of mobiles mid-flight and is now petitioning Downing Street in a bid to prevent the technology from being implemented on Three and O2 networks.

Andrew Gibson, managing director of DirectHolidayBookings.co.uk, said that while the firm was prepared for a large amount of discussion on the topic it did not foresee such a strong reaction.

He said: “The feedback we’ve received states that the last thing people want when flying is to be subjected to other passengers shouting into their mobile phones with loud and annoying ring tones going off constantly.

“Our users also have safety concerns regarding potential interference with the aircraft’s controls.” Mr Gibson stressed that while it may be convenient for some, others will simply not want to listen to loud phone conversations while on an aircraft.
