Low-cost Irish airline Ryanair has announced that it is introducing two new routes to Gdansk and Riga from Manchester Airport beginning in November.

The news comes as Ryanair expands its winter schedule from Manchester to 18 routes, promising to deliver more than 1.3m passengers a year.

The 18 routes from Manchester are as follows: Alicante, Barcelona (Girona), Bremen, Brussels, Budapest, Dublin, Faro, Gdansk, Katowice, Madrid, Malaga, Milan and Oslo. This is in addition to Riga, Rome, Rzeszow, Tenerife and Warsaw.

Last month Ryanair celebrated its first birthday at Manchester Airport.

Ryanair’s Maria Macken said: “Ryanair commenced its base operations last year with 26 routes, which have now grown to 28 with the addition of Budapest and Warsaw Modlin.

“Ryanair’s route network at Manchester is a perfect mix of city and sun destinations, giving passengers in the North West low cost access to Europe.”

The budget airline also recently announced that five new routes from Cork to Gdansk, Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw and Vilnius, also from November.

Ryanair argues that the fares, which are already on sale, offer customers a substantial saving compared to prices offered by rival Wizz Air.

Ryanair’s Michael Cawley said: “Ryanair is pleased to announce five new Cork routes to Gdansk, Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw and Vilnius, which will start in Nov 2012, at fares from just €6.99 – which is more than 50 per cent cheaper than Wizz’s lowest fares.

“Our Cork winter 2012 schedule now grows to two based aircraft and 10 routes which will deliver over 850,000 passengers p.a. at Cork Airport, sustaining over 800 “on-site” jobs.”
