Travel operator Thomas Cook has launched a new smartphone app that promises to offer Olympic sports fans the opportunity to win tickets.

The prize is a chance to win tickets to the final day of athletics events on 9 August 2012. This includes tickets to the men and women’s 200m finals, as well as the men’s 110m semi-final and finals.

Entrants who download the app will be asked a number of Olympics-related questions, which naturally become harder and harder as contestants progress through the stages. Upon completion of the quiz, all competitors will be placed in a national league table to see how their scores measure up.

The closing date for the quiz entries is 23.59pm on Monday, 16 July 2012. The competitor with the highest score will be awarded the prize.

Thomas Cook’s Olympic Games Quiz app costs 69p and is available to download now.

Olympic travel plans

A study on the impact of the Olympics on London tourism conducted by travel company Amadeus in May revealed that from the period 2 July until 2 September departures from London will fall by 2 per cent in comparison to 2011.

Bookings figures for inbound travel during the Olympics however show a 13 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. Travellers from Europe are likely to make up the largest share of inbound travel, accounting for 46 per cent of the total.

This is followed by those from the United States, at 19 per cent, up from 12 per cent in 2011.
