Airline Overview

Spain's largest carrier, Iberia Airlines has two main bases - Madrid-Barajas Airport and Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The airline is a member of the oneworld alliance, along with American Airlines, British Airways and Cathay Pacific. Iberia has two subsidiary airlines - Clickair and Air Nostrum. It also has a stake in Royal Air Maroc. Iberia Airlines is a market leader on flights between Europe and Latin America. On November 13, 2009, Iberia made a preliminary agreement to merge with its oneworld partner British Airways.

How to find the best deals for Iberia Airlines flights

The cheapest flights are highlighted on Iberia's homepage. Select your departure airport and the route - London to Barcelona, for example. Once clicked on, you will arrive at a handy page with a graph showing the cheapest flights. Be as flexible with your dates as possible to secure the cheapest seats.

Check-in

Online check-in is available between 24 and two hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. The check-in time limit for short and medium-haul routes is 45 minutes before the flight is scheduled to take off.

Baggage

Hand luggage: on short, medium-haul and long-haul flights, the allowance for Economy-Class passengers is one piece of luggage weighing up to 10kg and measuring no more than 115cm (55 + 40 + 20cm). Business-Class travellers' allowance is one piece weighing up to 14kg on short and medium-haul flights and two pieces weighing up to 18kg on long-haul flights. 

Checked: On domestic Spanish and European flights and on flights to Israel, the hold baggage allowance is 23kg. 

Excess: Luggage that exceeds 23kg and maximum dimensions of 158cm (length + width + height) will be charged. Passengers can buy extra baggage allowance online. There is a 30 per cent discount if purchased online. At the airport, excess baggage rates are calculated in units of 5kg, charged at €5 per kg.

Legroom

Seat pitch is 31 inches (79cm) in the Europa seat, 32 inches (81cm) in Economy Class in the Intercontinental seat. Business-Class flyers enjoy 60 inches (152cm) of seat pitch.

Seats can be selected during the booking process. They can also be selected during online check-in or via the autocheck-in machines.

Passenger Change Details

Depends on the fare class. Most of the cheaper fares do not allow refunds, returns or amendments. Where they are allowed, there will be a charge. Changes to names are not allowed. If you do want to change the dates or destintaion or departure airport of the ticket, call the Reservations Centre at 0870 609 0500 or visit one of the Iberia offices.

Child Fares

Discounts for young travellers vary by route. Infants (up to 23 months) seated in an adult's lap pay 10 per cent of the adult fare. Children aged 2-11 pay 50 per cent of the full adult fare on domestic routes. On international flights - London to Bueonos Aires for example - the discount is about 80 per cent.

Pets

Guide dogs are allowed in the cabin. Pet dogs, cats and birds etc may travel as cabin or hold baggage. The animals must meet the legal and documentary requisites. Contact the booking office in advance of travel. The cabin rates for animals are €25 per flight (domestic flights), €50 (European and African - except South Africa flights), and €150 for American flights. The charge for transporting animals in the hold of the aircraft are the same as excess baggage rates - units of 5kg at €5 per kg or €300 if the Piece system is used (equivalent to two pieces of excess).

In-flight Service

Economy-Class passengers travelling on most domestic, European and North Africa services have a buy-on-board food programme called Tu Menu, which features drinks, snacks and sandwiches. Spanish and international films are shown. There is audio and video on demand, games and a tail camera (an external camera positioned on the tail rudder, available on the A340/600 aircraft) that offers live views of the plane taking off, in flight and landing.
