The bag was small. So I had to put my things in my pockets, put the funny bag inside the other bag. Then go throw it. Then in the plane put everything back again in my funny bag.

Mobile overview
Located in south Alabama along the Gulf Coast, Mobile is a populous and modern metropolis with many attractions and shopping opportunities. The city is the location of the first Mardi Gras, and is also home to Alabama’s only saltwater port, and was once a key trading port between French and Native American traders. Mobile began as the first capital of French Louisiana in 1702, and has been a colony of France, Britain, and Spain during its first 100 years of history. The city is located with good transport links along Interstates 10 and 65, and visitors can use the area to begin a new journey to New Orleans, Montgomery, and Tallahassee. As a cultural centre within the United States, Mobile is full of historical locations, museums, and landmarks, as well as many modern attractions such as shopping areas and outdoor activities. The central part of the city is full of historical and cultural locations, and packed with plenty of local restaurants, boutiques, and museums to appeal to visitors with all kinds of interests. Historical and cultural enthusiasts will appreciate the Crescent Theatre, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and the Battleship USS Alabama located in Memorial Park.
The adventurous visitors will have plenty to enjoy in the city and surrounding areas, whether it’s watching a baseball game at Hank Aaron Stadium, or taking in the sights and hiking trails of Mobile Botanical Gardens or Herndon Park.
Getting around Mobile
There is an extensive transport infrastructure throughout the city, including four separate railway lines, interstate 10, and dozens of bus stops. Several taxi services and car rental companies also operate throughout the city.
Getting from the Airport to the City
The closest international airport to the city is Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, approximately 150 miles (241 km) from the city. Unfortunately there are no direct transportation services from the airport to Mobile, unless renting a car. It will be necessary to travel to New Orleans by either shuttle bus, taxi, or train, all of which operate on a fixed cost, and from there take another train or intercity bus from Union Station to Mobile.

There aren’t many direct flights to Mobile Regional Airport (MOB), in fact you can only fly directly from Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Memphis and Charlotte. Despite this, Mobile Regional is a busy little airport with more than 50 daily flights.
You may expect that a small airport like this would offer bargain fares, but that isn’t the case with Mobile Regional. As no low-cost carriers such as JetBlue or Southwest operate from the airport, the fares tend to be higher than nearby Pensacola Regional Airport.
The facilities at Mobile Regional are basic, with only a couple of restaurants and newsstands to keep passengers entertained between flights. A lack of entertainment and children’s amenities make it a less-than-ideal airport for stopovers. Still, if you do fly into Mobile Regional Airport, you can expect a warm Southern welcome from the friendly and helpful staff.
