When you choose car hire in Lagos, you will drive on the left-hand side of the road. However, unlike the UK, speed limit signs in Lagos display limits in kilometres per hour rather than miles per hour. Speed limits in Lagos usually range from 50kph (31 mph) in built-up areas or on single carriage highways to 100kph (62 mph) on motorways. Drivers and passengers using Lagos car hire must also obey seatbelt laws or risk being fined. Children younger than age seven must also have the correct car seat while you are on the road. Nigeria sets a legal limit of 0.05 g/100 mL blood alcohol concentration. An economy vehicle can be great if you want to drive farther out, along the Lagos coast or explore more rural areas. Although roads outside of the city are generally quite well maintained, an SUV might be a good choice if you want a bit more storage space and a sturdy vehicle for longer drives.
