Some car hire agencies will hire you a car when you are 18 years or older but it will be much more expensive as car hire agencies add on additional rates and fees. As well as having your licence, you will also need to have an International Driver's Permit in order to apply for a car hire. Some other documents that will be necessary will be insurance for the duration of your car hire as well as personal information and your passport details with all relevant visas to the country.
When driving in Lebanon, it is important to remember that by law all cars must drive on the right hand side of the road and every passenger in the vehicle must wear a seat belt or the car will be fined. If hiring a motorbike, then you must wear your helmet at all times while driving. There is a zero drinking and driving policy in the country so please make sure that if you decide to go for a few drinks that you Uber there and back home. The rules of the road and road signs in the country are mostly the same as in all countries and can be easily followed by an experienced driver. When hiring a car, please also remember that you will need to have all contracts and paperwork between you and the car company present at all times while using the vehicle in case you are asked for it.
Driving in Lebanon can be very intimidating for newcomers to the country as the hustle and bustle of the roads can cause some large scale panic attacks at times. When looking for the best car to hire it's best to refer to what locale you will be staying in, if you are staying in the city then it would be wise to hire a smaller car that will be able to manoeuvre the city a little better and be able to fit into those small parking spaces, but if you are planning on travelling outside the city and exploring the rest of the country a bit more, then we would recommend going for a slightly bigger and more robust car as it will be needed when travelling the long distances between cities.
