The town is a year-round destination, thanks to its exceptional scenery and great range of outdoor activities. Summer festivals like the Filberg Festival or the Island Music Festival bring many visitors to the area from June till August, while skiing and snowboarding are favorite activities from December to March. Quieter times to visit are during the shoulder season months of April and May when spring foliage is at its best or September and October when it’s still pleasant before the snows arrive. Low season is from October to November when many of the seasonal summer events are over, and the winter snows have not yet arrived in the ski areas. Summer is the most expensive time to visit, and the ski season also sees a rise in the cost of flights and accommodations.

Most visitors get around the town easily on foot, and local bus companies operate frequent services to the ski area and Strathcona Regional Park as well as all parts of Vancouver Island. There are also good local taxi services which charge set fares.
