With a tropical savanna climate, a popular time to travel to Kaohsiung is between April and November when the temperature is a comfortable 30 degrees C. December to March is cooler when temperatures can drop 3-5 degrees. There are many festivals held in Kaohsiung such as the Dragon Boat Festival in May or the Yi Ya Festival in June when eating contests are held along with an enormous banquet at the temple. The Gourmet Food Festival in July has eel races and cookery lessons.

The architecture in the city is awe-inspiring. Not to be missed is the Dome Light which can be found in Formosa Boulevard Station, it’s a huge glass work of art, so don’t forget your camera.
