    Germanwings Check-in

    The airline recommends that passengers check-in at least 90 minutes before the flight is scheduled to take off. Online check-in is available between 72 hours and three hours before departure. If you're flying from an airport in Germany (not Rostock-Laage) the latest you can check-in online is one hour before take-off. If you're flying from London Stansted, Germanwings recommends passengers be at check-in two hours before departure.

    Germanwings baggage allowance

    Hand luggage: The allowance is one bag, weighing up to 8kg and measuring a maximum of 55 x 40 x 20 cm.

    Checked: depends on the fare class. The cost of checking-in one item of luggage (weighing up to 20kg) is £9 (€10) online or via the call centre or £17 (€20) if you wait until you get to the airport. Best fares have a free luggage allowance of one piece and Flex fare holders may stow up to five items of luggage weighing up to 20kg. Each flyer may check-in several items of luggage weighing up to 50kg but no one bag may weigh more than 32kg. Skis and snowboards go free of charge.

    Excess: excess luggage may be registered online at the end of the booking process. On European flights, if the excess luggage weighs between 20 and 40kg, the fee per 5kg increment is £27 (€30) if booked online or via the call centre and £45 (€50) at the airport.

    Seats can be reserved on all Germanwings flights.

    Passenger change details

    Travel dates can be changed up to two hours before the scheduled departure of the flight (passenger name and route must be the same). This can be done online or via the call centre. Passengers may only change a booking within the same fare bracket and there is a fee for this - £31 (€35) for a change to the flight date. Changing the name per person and per booking costs £31 (€35). If the new flight fare is higher than the price originally paid, the difference will be charged.

    Child fares

    Infant flyers (seated in an adult's lap) travel for about £13. There's a discount of 20 per cent for children aged between 2 and 11 years.

    Senior fares



    Germanwings transports cats and dogs in the cabin however due to national immigration regulations, the airline cannot transport pets on flights to the UK and Ireland.

    Carrying musical instruments

    Germanwings will accept musical instruments as carry-on items providing they are no larger than a guitar. Larger instruments must be transported in a separate seat. Double basses are not transported in the cabin.

    In-flight service

    Snacks and drinks may be purchased onboard. If you have paid for a Best or Flex fare a voucher for a Happy Picnic (a sandwich and bottle of water or hot drink) is included in the price.

    Air miles

    Boomerang Club is the name of Germanwings' bonus programme. The highlights are 10 miles for every €1 spent on a Germanwings flight, a reward flight for 10,000 miles, exclusive offers and VIP security at selected airports.
