The German low-cost airline was founded in 1997 and has two hubs - Cologne Bonn and Stuttgart airports. The airline flies to Cologne from Stansted, Edinburgh and Dublin and to Stuttgart from Stansted. There are onward flights to many destinations across Europe. Check-in

The check-in desks close 30 minutes before departure. Recommended check-in is 90 minutes before the flight leaves. Web check-in is available for passengers travelling with hand luggage from some German airports including Cologne/Bonn, Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Baggage

Hand luggage: must not exceed 8kg and maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20cm. A laptop, camea, jacket, umbrella or duty-free items are also carried free of charge.

Checked: Germanwings charges for checking-in luggage - £4 per piece if registered online or via the call centre. The charge at the airport is £8 per piece. The maximum weight is 23kg. individual pieces of luggage must not be heavier than 32kg.

Excess: there is a charge of £6 per kg, but, space allowing, baggage up to 50kg will be carried.

Passenger Change Details

The date of travel can be changed up to two hours before flying time at a charge of £23 and any price difference for the new flight. If the new flight is sold at a lower cost no refunds can be made. There is a name change fee of £27 per person and booking plus any difference in the fare. Cancellations are not allowed.

Child Fares

None. Infants under two can travel for £7 per route on an adult's lap. They do not have any baggage allowance.

Pets

Germanwings only transports cats and dogs in the cabin. The animal should weigh no more than 8kg, including the transport box or bag, which must be closed and watertight while still allowing air to circulate. This box or bag may be no larger than length 25.5 x 40 x 40cm. There will be a charge of £17 per animal per flight.

Carrying Musical Instruments

Germanwings will accept musical instruments as carry-on items providing they are no larger than a guitar.
