Kitzbuhel is Austria's fanciest resort. Its slopes are extensive and varied and its beautiful medieval town centre (mostly car-free) offers lively apres-ski too. Cheap flights to Austria are just the start of a snowy adventure. With plenty of cheap lodgings available in Kitzbuhel, you'll be able to splurge on rib-sticking fare in the many excellent restaurants.
The major ski area, the Hahnenkamm, lies south of Kitzbuhel and is shared with Kirchberg, another ski resort. Skiers can catch the Hahnenkamm gondola at the edge of Kitzbuhel and another gondola, near the railway station, ascends to the Kitzbüheler Horn sector, a smaller area.
During the summer months mountain flowers dot the green slopes and hikers can make the most of the nearly 200km of marked footpaths, the silence broken only by the distant tinkling of cow bells.
