The Italian ski resort of Cervinia sits in the middle of the Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche Zermatt district, one of the largest skiable areas in the Alps. From Cervinia you can ski in Italy and Switzerland and across three valleys. Named after the Matterhorn (Monte Cervino in Italian), the resort is positioned high in the mountains. It’s situated at 2,050m and has lifts that take skiers as high as 3,899m. With 350km of runs and seven brand new lifts to carry you across the ski area, this is the perfect spot for those skiers who don’t like to cover the same piste twice.
The resort itself is considered an upmarket one, though this is due more to its position among the slopes than any great beauty of the resort itself. Purpose built in the 1930s, the resort has none of the charm found in the French Alpine villages of wooden chalets. But skiers don’t book flights to Cervinia for the architecture, but for the altitude, endless miles of skiing and the extensive après-ski.
