In Ireland, children who are shorter than 150 cm or lighter than 36 kg must use an appropriate child restraint system by law. You have the option of bringing your own car seat or hiring one from your car hire company. Make sure the car seat fits your car and complies with the EU safety standards. It's forbidden and risky to put a child seat that faces backwards in the front passenger seat that has a working airbag. The best place for children to travel is in the back seat of the car.
To explore more than one country on your trip to Ireland, be aware of the costs and requirements for crossing the borders with your hire car. You must inform the car hire company in advance and pay a cross-border fee. This fee will extend your insurance/cover to the UK and give you a VE103 form that allows you to take the car abroad temporarily. You also need to carry your driving licence, passport and hire agreement with you at all times. You generally aren’t allowed to take your hire car to any other countries outside the UK, such as France, Spain or Germany.
If you’re flying to Ireland and need a hired car, you should know where to find the car hire desks at the airports. Ireland has four major airports: Dublin (DUB), Cork (ORK), Shannon (SNN) and Belfast (BFS). Dublin Airport has car hire desks in the main arrivals hall of Terminals 1 and 2. All the other airports have desks in the main terminal. If you arrive at Belfast Airport, there's a free airport shuttle bus leaving roughly every 10min from outside the main terminal exit to the car hire centre.

Generally good, friendly staff and efficient. Only real issue was that we couldn't use our CDW waiver with credit card coverage since: a) it required a very large authorization on the card (€5000, I think) which was rejected for security reasons, and b) there's a fee to do this! Never seen this issue before but I think it's avoidable via the aggregators. Car itself was good. Had more nicks and scratches at pickup than average but that's not a problem for us. Overall a good experience, just a bit pricy for a one day rental once all the added fees are taken into account.

Car collection not in the airport - long wait to get to a knackered car that’s was not to reserved specification
We picked up the car on Haddington Rd. in Dublin. David and Irwin are very professional and courteous. We found the cars very satisfactory.

The hidden fees were a little surprising. Thought I booked a car for the price on Kayak, turns out I’d end up paying almost 3x that much when I went to pick it up

Car was good but insurance was outrageous. 30 for car and 48 for insurance! Then they billed my CC in $ instead of euro without asking so I lost another 3% to their bank. SUCKS

Customer service was excellent. Pick-up and Drop-off was very easy. Car was clean and good condition. I went to a wrong terminal without reading the instructions. Read instructions carefully and just be mindful which terminal the car is located and go to the right terminal. Then all will be well. Very easy. West wishes
They cancelled our booking direct to us with no explanation

This was the most horrible rental experience I have ever had. The service desk was terrible and the manager was terrible at Dublin airport. We paid over $1000 for a weekly rental and then they said we could not take the car unless we paid an extra $500 in insurance . It was total bait and switch job. They also cancelled my brothers reservation without even letting him know. We went to Sixt rentals and they took care of us and couldn’t have been nicer. I will never ever rent from Avis again. Low class and terrible service.

When I got there they said the insurance I paid for didn't cover it and I had to pay an additional $1000. Criminals.

Was vey disappointed in this entire experience really. Extremely confusing checkin and cad pickup process, car ended up costing about $500 more than originally expected, and they didn’t have the car we booked months in advance. If I would’ve listened to other reviews, I would’ve just paid more upfront (ended up paying it anyway), and went with My Irish Cousin for rental.

Insurance is a bit of a rip off and they don’t recognise our travel insurance covers their car. Car was given to us with a low pressure in a tyre, no water in the window washers and a drivers door handle loose.
They don't accept revolut or n26 cards. They also are very friendly or helpful. I can definitely recommend going to Europcar instead
