Charlottesville is a city in the US state of Virginia. This southern town is small when compared to some in the US, but makes up for it with a wealth of landmarks and attractions. Many tourists visit the city for its wine and beer tours, hiking, ballooning and great entertainment venues. The indie music scene is quite active in the area. For nature lovers, the Shenandoah National Park offers striking scenery and a number of recreational activities to enjoy. The beautiful Skyline drive, located within the park, runs the length of the park and offers great views and a chance to commune with nature. The vibrant downtown area of Charlottesville offers retail therapy in the form of the Downtown Mall. This is an outdoor pedestrian mall and one of the biggest in the US.
For culture lovers, the Paramount Theatre hosts concerts and Broadway shows, while great food and wine may be sampled at a variety of restaurants, coffee shops on West Main Street or The Corner, which is dotted with college bars and shops. The University of Virginia Art Museum exhibits work from more than 10 000 art objects in its collection. The Confederate Soldier monument, located in court square offers one of Charlottesville’s most visited landmarks. Every fourth of July an annual celebration is held in Monticello.
There is a city bus service for those who prefer seeing the sights by bus. Rental cars, taxis, and bicycle tours are also offered in the city. Parts of Charlottesville are great to tour on foot, but caution should be exercised after dark.
The Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) serves the area and public transportation options include the Amtrak Station and Greyhound Bus Lines. There is also a direct bus service to New York City.
