Situated on the Southern Ocean at about 450 miles (720km) southeast of Perth in Western Australia, the town offers an attractive beach lifestyle and a picturesque coastline that is blessed with a warm Mediterranean climate. Esperance is best known for having the whitest sandy beaches in Australia and is also home to the Cyclops wave, a massive wave that few surfers would dare to ride. The town has a history that dates back to 1627 and it was originally named by French explorers after a famous French ship whose name meant “hope”. Today, Esperance is a convenient central hub for tourists who want to explore the natural wonders of the local area, such as Cape Le Grand National Park, a picturesque national park that is home to a wealth of endemic flora and fauna. To the west of the town lies Pink Lake, a salt lake which often appears to be pink in colour due to the presence of algae in the water. Esperance also offers plenty of entertainment for families and children, including Adventureland Park, a pleasure park for children located on the Esplanade, a Bird and Animal Park that gives children the chance to feed a variety of cute animals and “Sammy” a resident seal who lives at the base of the Tanker Jetty.

Alternatively, you can hire a car to travel out to the surrounding national parks and beaches in the area. If you are planning to tour around nearby towns, there is a major highway that runs from Esperance to Kalgoorlie in the north and a second highway that runs west along the coast towards Perth.
