Port Lincoln, the self-proclaimed ‘Seafood Capital of Australia’ offers so much more than casual culinary delights and golden beaches. Situated on the lower Eyre Peninsula in the south of Australia, this bright and beautiful port is in a prime location for those who want to explore the unforgettable stretch of coastline and beyond.
With such great links to the open ocean, it’s no wonder that Port Lincoln is famed for its incredible sea excursions. One of the most exciting by far is the shark cage diving experience, giving you the opportunity to get up close and personal with Australia’s most infamous natives. If you’d prefer something a little tamer, Port Lincoln also has various swimming experiences with giant tuna fish and sea lions. True to its claim, this destination also offers fishing excursions that let you experience first-hand why Port Lincoln is the seafood capital of Australia.
Once you’ve retreated back to the shore, head inland to the Glen Forest Animal Park where you can interact and feed some of the local wildlife before getting in a quick round of mini-golf with the family. The nearby Lincoln National Park is also an ideal spot if you’re looking for a bit of tranquillity and relaxation. A breathtakingly beautiful location, you can experience everything from woodland trails to dolphins skimming along the shore. Finally, what better way to end your trip than by visiting Whalers Way to give you the best panoramic view of Port Lincoln.
As a coastal town offering plenty of maritime activities, Port Lincoln is at its best when the weather is warm. Therefore, this is an ideal destination during the spring (September to November) and summer (December to February) seasons. In fact, there’s no better way to enjoy the beaches and national parks than at this time. Also, with school term time falling within these months, flights and accommodation prices will be much cheaper then.
Getting around the city is also fairly straightforward as most of the scenic routes are best enjoyed on foot. If you would like to travel further out however, there is a regular bus service that accommodates travel within the city itself, whilst a car rental is ideal for longer excursions.
