The island of Hvar, just off the Dalmatian coast by Split, is one of the most popular islands for tourists in Croatia. The Pakleni islands to the south protect Hvar from bad weather and a combination of sun, blue seas and natural beauty make it one of the more idyllic spots to holiday.
Hvar Town is the port and where most travellers stay, either on luxury yachts moored in the harbour or one of the many guest houses situated on the steep steps leading away from the port up into the hills. The town itself has excellent restaurants and bars, along with some pretty architecture. The pace of life here is slow and relaxed. Inland, the island is renowned for its fields of lush, scented lavender. Away from the port, there are far fewer visitors. Explore undiscovered coves and beaches, rolling vineyards and rugged mountains.
All Hvar flights arrive in Split as there is no airport on the island. Numerous ferries arrive from Split every day during the summer months. In winter, check the timetable, or arrive in style on your own yacht…
