Yes, there are currently restrictions on flights to Benidorm along with the rest of Spain. Before you book or search for flights, consider the following restrictions: Spain has restricted the entry of all travellers except Spanish nationals and residents, and accompanying immediate family members. Travellers who are residents of Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden or Switzerland may transit through Spain on their way home to their place of residency. The same applies to travellers with a long-term visa issued by a Schengen Member State who are returning to their place of residency. Immediate family members of Spanish nationals may enter Spain even if unaccompanied by a Spanish national, if they are travelling to join their family member who is already in the country. Residents of Andorra, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, as well as long-term visa holders of Schengen member states who are returning home may also enter Spain, as may healthcare and elderly care workers, diplomats, staff of international and humanitarian organisations and military personnel in the performance of their duties. People who can demonstrate proof that they are travelling for emergency family or humanitarian reasons may also enter. Business travellers with documentation who are arriving from countries in the EU, Iceland, Norway, or Switzerland may enter Spain. International arrivals may only land at Alicante (ALC), Barcelona (BCN), Fuerteventura (FUE), Gran Canaria (LPA), Ibiza (IBZ), Madrid (MAD), Malaga (AGP), Menorca (MAH), Lanzarote (ACE), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), Sevilla (SVQ), Tenerife-Sur (TFS) or Valencia (VLC). Effective 15 May 2020, all travellers entering Spain except for freight transport personnel and healthcare professionals who are travelling in the performance of their duties and have not been in contact with COVID-19 patients will be required to self-isolate for 14 days. They will also need to present a completed Public Health Passenger Locator Form upon arrival. Residency permits and D visas that expired after 14 December 2019 will be accepted for entry to Spain and considered valid for 6 months after the state of alarm has ended.. Flights to Benidorm are most expensive during July and August as this is the hottest and most popular time of year to visit. The full peak season runs from May to October and throughout this entire time Benidorm is very overcrowded, as such you might struggle to find cheap flights to Benidorm. (Please note that Benidorm doesn’t have an airport so you’ll have to fly into Alicante first and travel from there.)
The winter season is still very popular, but there are also cheap flights to Benidorm when compared to the summer months. You’ll also find that the streets aren’t as crowded and rentals are cheaper. That said, a lot of the attractions, restaurants and bars are closed. There is the Fallas festival normally held in March time, which symbolises the welcoming of spring. It’s a huge celebration in Benidorm with street parties and parades. Flights to Benidorm might not be as cheap for this time in March but it’s a great festival to witness.
In November there is a weeklong fiesta so grabbing cheap flights to Benidorm then is definitely worth it. There are fireworks, parades, live music and much more, some of which last almost 24 hours. Make sure to secure your flight tickets well in advance if you want to attend.
You can grab cheap flights to Benidorm just 3 or 4 weeks before you intend to travel, however during festivals and peak seasons the price will be a lot higher. The five main airlines that operate flights to Benidorm are KLM, Jet2, Aer Lingus, Swiss and Iberia. You can save money on your flight tickets by finding flights that combine airlines such as Iberia and British Airways, which can be cheaper than just using Iberia for both legs of the journey. Most airlines offer competitive prices on their flights so finding a bargain shouldn’t be too difficult.
There are a few options you can take to get from Alicante to Benidorm, all of which take about an hour and are easily accessible. The first option is to get a bus direct to Benidorm which costs approximately €8, or if you’d rather see a bit of Alicante first you can get a bus which takes 90 minutes and goes through the downtown of Alicante. Taxis are also available from the airport and while these might save you 15 minutes or so in transport time, the costs can be up to or more than €70, so unless there are quite a few of you travelling this option probably isn’t viable. You could also rent a car if you plan on exploring around the Alicante region too, which will give you a lot more freedom than relying on public transport, however if you want to get to and stay in Benidorm the bus is the most convenient choice.
