The Costa Brava, lying between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees, is sometimes called the Catalan coast or the Gerona region or “Emporda”, the historical region of Catalonia. It runs from Blanes, which is 60km northeast of Barcelona, to the French border.
There are three parts to the Costa Brava – the southern end with resorts such as Tossa de Mar, Blanes, and Lloret de Mar to which most tourists flock, the northern end which is a magnet for water-sport enthusiasts and the middle bit which is under discovered and where many Spanish holiday makers take a break.
Tourists seeking cheap flights to Costa Brava have a choice of airports to fly into – Barcelona and Girona.
