There isn’t much of an off season in Vietnam so unless humidity bothers you, you can usually find flight tickets for any time of the year and not be disappointed. The north of the country is cool and dry from November to April so you can escape the UK winter and find some cheap flights to Vietnam. Summer runs from May to October and although the weather is very hot, there are also heavy rains that sweep the country. It’s very similar in the south of the country although the wet season lasts until November.
Off season:
The centre of the city typically sees heavy rains from December to February so if that puts you off consider a different time of year. You might be able to find cheap flights to Vietnam then though and generally the weather is still hot and humid. Christmas is a very family-orientated time of year as is Tet, which is the Lunar New Year in February.

You can also get a taxi which is easier in the respect that you don’t have to wait around for the transport and if have a lot of baggage they can be more convenient. That said you’ll be paying a lot more than the bus and you should make sure to agree on the fee before getting in to avoid being ripped off.
Ho Chi Minh City:
The cheapest way to get to the city is to take a bus from the airport. You can opt for either bus number 152 which is the cheapest one, although it takes longer and isn’t of the highest quality. Number 109 is very frequent and provides a better standard of quality so it’s worth trying to get that one if you can. Failing that your only option is to take a taxi. These are incredibly expensive when compared to the bus prices but they are a lot more convenient and save you from being squashed into a bus.
