Are there currently restrictions on travel to Vietnam related to COVID-19?

There are current restrictions for travel to Vietnam at this time. These restrictions are for the safety of Vietnam citizens and travellers alike and are as follows: Vietnam has restricted all entry to travelers except for citizens, diplomats, and highly skilled workers, experts, business managers, and others who were approved by the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control. Those traveling for official purposes will be subject to medical examination at the border before entering Vietnam. All travelers are subject to a 14-day quarantine and must fill out a quarantine form prior to arrival. All visa issuances are suspended. Citizens of Italy, South Korea, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and passengers with a British passport are no longer visa-exempt. Travelers with a Certificate of Visa Exemption issued by Vietnam residing in China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Norway, Spain, Sweden, or the United Kingdom are no longer visa-exempt. Citizens of Belarus, Japan, and Russia with a normal passport or Certificate of Visa Exemption are no longer visa-exempt.. Peak season:

There isn’t much of an off season in Vietnam so unless humidity bothers you, you can usually find flight tickets for any time of the year and not be disappointed. The north of the country is cool and dry from November to April so you can escape the UK winter and find some cheap flights to Vietnam. Summer runs from May to October and although the weather is very hot, there are also heavy rains that sweep the country. It’s very similar in the south of the country although the wet season lasts until November.

Off season:

The centre of the city typically sees heavy rains from December to February so if that puts you off consider a different time of year. How to get from the airport to the city centre?

Hanoi:

There are 2 buses that regularly travel to the city from the airport. Bus numbers 7 and 17 can be found as you exit the airport and take about an hour. They operate from 05:00 until 22:00 so you should be able to jump on one depending when your flights to Vietnam land. You can also get a taxi which is easier in the respect that you don’t have to wait around for the transport and if have a lot of baggage they can be more convenient. That said you’ll be paying a lot more than the bus and you should make sure to agree on the fee before getting in to avoid being ripped off.

Ho Chi Minh City:

The cheapest way to get to the city is to take a bus from the airport. You can opt for either bus number 152 which is the cheapest one, although it takes longer and isn’t of the highest quality. Number 109 is very frequent and provides a better standard of quality so it’s worth trying to get that one if you can. Failing that your only option is to take a taxi. These are incredibly expensive when compared to the bus prices but they are a lot more convenient and save you from being squashed into a bus.
