Peak season:
You’ll struggle to find the cheap flights to Germany from May to late October as there are a lot of events and festivals. The weather is at its best and flight tickets are a lot more expensive. The peak months do vary slightly depending on exactly where in Germany you want to fly to but as a rule of thumb make sure to secure your flight tickets two or three months earlier to get the cheapest prices. Reservations to Frankfurt’s auto show in September and the October book fair are normally booked years in advance so if you were hoping to make a quick visit next year you might need to plan much further ahead. Christmas and New Year are busy so book your flights to Germany in advance and don’t hope for a later festive deal.
Off Season:
The off season is generally from November to April as the temperature drops and the rain becomes more common. You’ll find the cheapest flights to Germany around then but it’s still wise to book in advance. Once you’ve narrowed down on your final destination have a check to see if there are any folk festivals on during or around the time you want to visit as this will increase the price of your flight tickets.

If weather is an important factor for your trip to Germany, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, July is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 18.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 1.0 C).
Some flights to Germany can be incredibly cheap, for example you can find flights to Cologne for just £20 at certain times of the year. You should still book two months in advance to guarantee a better price than a last minute deal though. If you aren’t restricted by dates then you can find the cheapest flights to Germany by simply comparing a few airlines, dates and destinations and then securing the flight tickets for the cheapest ones available. If Berlin ends up to be your place of choice then try to secure seats on the left hand side of the plane for fantastic views of the skyline.

45 minute flight delay. Gate agent in Athens had poor communication skills which made the wait more stressful. Updates from Aegean via email were late.

Spanning a railway and motorway, Leipzig/Halle Airport is located close to the cities of Leipzig and Halle. In an attempt to win the hosting bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, the airport was completely revamped and modernised (at German taxpayers’ expense). However, the city of Leipzig lost the bid to London and the airport now seems somewhat deserted, with passengers often having to walk long distances through desolate halls, or sit in excessively large lounges with little or no company.
Although some travellers may find this a little dreary, many enjoy the quiet, state-of-the-art amenities and friendly and helpful staff. It all adds up to a world-class experience without the chaos and crowding often associated with equally modern, but busier, airports.
Just over two million passengers use Leipzig/Halle Airport each year. English is not widely spoken by airport staff, so brush up on your German in case you need to ask for their assistance.
